Vaccines Not Mandatory In MichiganDespite letters to the contrary from school districts, day care centers and other institutions, immunizations are not mandatory. In Michigan we have a statute (MCLA § 333.9215, entitled "exemptions"): A child is exempt from this part if a parent, guardian or person in loco parentis of a child presents a written statement to the administrator of the child's school or operator of the group program to the effect that the requirements of this part cannot be met because of religious convictions or other objections to immunizations. This stature allows you to sign a waiver to decline getting immunizations prior to enrolling in a day care or educational institution. While Chiropractic Wellness Center does not oppose vaccines - we oppose mandatory vaccines. While the distinction may sound subtle, it points to the core of our concern - that all citizens should have the right to make their own health care choices. Michigan is one of only 17 states which continues to support the right of parents and individuals to make their own vaccination choices, though that right is under constant attack. Why do people choose not to use vaccinations?
